A 32-year-old St Joseph man charged with child endangerment for allegedly shooting a young boy in the face with a toy gun has been granted bond.

Trial is now scheduled August 21st for Aaron Blohm, who was charged in July with misdemeanor child endangerment for allegedly shooting his girlfriend’s 8-year-old son in the face with an Airsoft pistol.

Blohm was initially ordered held without bond as a continuing danger to the victim. On Wednesday, Judge Keith Marquart allowed him to bail out provided he have no contact with the victim,

A court affidavit says Blohm has used the weapon in the past to get the youngster’s attention by shooting over his head.

St Joe Teen Accidentally Shot; Amputation Likely

SJPD patchA St Joseph teenager was seriously hurt after an accidental shooting Thursday night.  Authorities are not sure if the victim shot himself or was shot by a friend.

St Joseph Police Commander Janice Rothganger says the victim, an 18-year-old black male, was with some friends at King Hill Lookout, in the 200 block of King Hill Drive, at about 10:30pm Wednesday, when he was shot in the leg.

“We’re continuing to try to piece together what happened,” Rothganger said.

“Even after talking to the friends, we’re not sure if he accidentally shot himself, or was accidentally shot by someone who was present with him.”

Rothganger says the victim likely faces amputation.

“The victim was shot in the leg with a shotgun, suffered very serious injuries,” Rothganger said, “and is expected to lose his left leg below the knee.”

Rothganger says their investigation continues.

“We don’t have anybody in custody as of yet. Considering the nature of the injuries, we’re going to follow up and see if any criminal charges need to be filed. Again, we don’t know the exact circumstances leading up to the accidental discharge. Any time somebody is shot, somebody is resonsible for that.”

Rothganger says if there are criminal charges to be looked into, our detectives will determine that, and forward that to the Buchanan County Prosecutor’s Office for review. But she says it’s way too early to guess on what might happen.

If you have information that could help detectives, you are urged to contact police.

Friends and family of 15-year-old Bailey Summers have been very active online after the teenager was abducted in Gilman City Thursday.

The Harrison County Sheriff’s Department issued an Endangered Person Advisory Thursday. Summers was last seen Thursday afternoon leaving a residence in Gilman City in a silver Dodge pickup with Eli McPike.

Summers has an order of protection against McPike, who the Harrison County Sheriff said “is known to be violent and suicidal.”

Prosecutors have filed kidnapping charges against McPike, who is under an ex-parte order to stay away from the teenager. But officials say she left with him voluntarily.

On Facebook, the comments range from compassion, to advice, to anger:

*”Wish I was asleep, but I can’t stop worrying about you. I just need to know you’re safe.”

*”Bay, if you ever read this.. Get away from him any chance you get.. Run to the nearest business, or house.. Call 911 and run, run as fast as you can, we are all worried, come home safe baby girl…”

*”If Iever see you Eli.. Ohhhh…I will cut your body up into little pieces…Then I will let our family do the rest.”

*”Just,please bring her home!”

There’s now a flyer circulating urging people to call 911 if they have information.

The office of Buchanan County Sheriff Mike Strong will start issuing concealed weapons permits nearly four months before it’s required to under a new state law. Undersheriff Bill Puett says when the law takes effect August 28 the Department of Revenue will stop issuing the permits. Sheriffs will have until January first to begin issuing permit cards. Puett says Buchanan County will begin issuing printed concealed carry permits September 9th. Hard cards will follow in January.

The permit fee will remain $100, but the permit will be good for five years instead of the current three.
