(Election Results) Smoking Ban Passes; “Kappy” Meet “Spanky”

Smoking will soon be banned in most public places in St Joseph, where voters on Tuesday narrowly approved a clean-air initiative. Out of 16,200 people casting ballots, the margin was just 818 votes, or 5.5%. Voter turnout was 31.54%.

Donna Jean Boyer, Kent “Spanky” O’Dell, and Ken Beck will take the at-large seats on the council.

Pat Jones beat Dennis Adams by more than 20% in the first district of the St Joseph City Council. In the second district, Joyce Starr (57.05%) beat Ellis Cross (42.1%). Barbara LaBass beat Mary Attebury in the fifth district by 89 votes.

Kathleen “Kappy” Hodges and Lori Prussman have won seats on the St Joseph School District Board of Education, in a very close three-way race for two seats. Jeffrey “Jeff” Bird trailed Prussman by just 359 votes.
