Buchanan County might be forced to drop its employee health insurance in four years because of Obamacare.
The county offers what the federal government calls a “Cadillac” plan that will be hit with a 40 percent tax in 2018. Presiding Commissioner RT Turner says the county can’t afford that, so employees would have to shop for their own insurance at healthcare.gov.
Turner says he was shocked to learn about the Cadillac designation at a recent training program for county officials. He says it’s ludicrous to be penalized for providing good coverage when the whole idea was supposed to be improving healthcare.
