A fire in north St Joseph destroyed a single-family home and sent a 21-year-old woman to the hospital with smoke inhalation and light burns.
The fire was reported at 11:14 am at 2601 Flintstone Drive.
St Joseph Fire Department Inspector Steve Henrichson says six items were plugged into a surge protector where the fire started.
Henrichson says for some reason the neither the surge protector nor the fuse were tripped by the apparently overloaded device.
He estimates the damage at $80,000.
