Anglers fish through thick ice on Mozingo Lake near Maryville. The cold and icy weather presents Missourian fishers some unique opportunities. Biologists at the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will offer an ice fishing workshop this Saturday, February 8th at Mozingo Lake located East of Maryville, Missouri. The event will run from 9 a.m. to noon and is free to attend.

In ice fishing, holes are drilled in the ice and anglers use small jigs, wax worms or natural bait to lure fish.

MDC Fisheries Management Biologist Tory Mason says that this kind of cold weather brings out bluegill, crappie, and large mouth bass. Anglers fish through thick ice on Mozingo Lake near Maryville.
