Bookmobile a rolling (hills) success story!

bookmobileThe bookmobile program at the Rolling Hills Consolidated Library is growing by leaps and bounds.

“We got on the road in June of 2013,” says Public Information Officer Alan Stolfus. “We started with five stops, and checked out 51 books in our first month of operation.”

“Last month we had 55 stops, and we checked out 2,365 books.”

The bookmobile staff was greeted like rock stars in Gower earlier this week. Gower has no public library, so team Bookmobile Team Leader Deb Ezzell says they expected interest in the program in Gower. They added a staff member just to be on the safe side. But Ezzell says they were surprised by the turnout.

“When we pulled up, there was a whole group of kids and teachers under the picnic shelter,” Ezzell says, “and there were probably at least 50 to 75 people there.”

“Then, the people just kept coming. The bus was full at all times. We probably had about 150 people go through there.”

The bookmobile now serves more than a dozen small towns in Andrew and Buchanan counties, plus several nursing homes in Savannah and St Joseph.

Mr Stolfus says since the program started, they’ve handed out more than 700 new library cards from the bookmobile.
