A radio station in Ohio is reporting that Missouri rape and kidnapping suspect Brian Adkison was pursued in northeastern Ohio Tuesday morning.
WTAM radio in Cleveland reports Brian Adkison was spotted at 4:29 a.m. Tuesday in Westlake, Ohio. When an officer tried to question the man found sleeping in a stolen pickup truck, the man took off.
Westlake, Ohio police called off the pursuit, but a short time later police in North Ridgeville pursued the same vehicle, and deflated one of the truck’s tires with stop sticks.
The radio station reports the driver fled on foot. At 9:56 am, the search of the area for the suspect was called off.
The suspect driver has since been identified through evidence in the truck as 23-year-old Brian James Adkison of Columbia, Missouri. The Pennsylvania plate on the truck was found to have been stolen in South Strabane Township, PA. The truck itself was stolen from Weirton, WV.
A pickup truck stolen in Kingston, Missouri the same night Adkison escaped custody has been recovered about 40 miles northeast of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Sheriff Jerry Galloway tells us they have not yet confirmed that Adkison was the one who stole the truck recovered Friday night.
“The fingerprints haven’t been done yet,” Galloway said in an interview. “They did recover the truck and processed it for us, but actually saying he is definitely the one? No.”
The 23-year-old Adkison escaped through the ceiling of the Caldwell County Detention Center wearing nothing but boxer shorts. A Ford truck was stolen at about the same time.
The Columbia resident was in custody on multiple charges in five counties, including the kidnapping and assault of his ex-girlfriend. A Facebook page has been set up to share information in the case.
