Former evidence officer pleads guilty to stealing evidence

A former evidence officer in Caldwell County has pleaded guilty to charges he stole evidence.

Brett O’Dell, 28, was charged in April with stealing cash and prescription drugs from the Caldwell County evidence vault.

On Monday, O’Dell entered a plea of guilty to one count of Stealing and one count of possession of a controlled substance. According to online court documents, prosecutors will recommend five years probation. O’Dell will be required to surrender his Peace Officer License and to pay restitution. He was accused of stealing pills and more than $5,000 cash from the evidence vault.

Sentencing is scheduled January 29.

The case was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Douglas Roberts of Livingston County was appointed special prosecutor in the case, and Daviess County Associate Circuit Judge Daren Adkins presided.
