Second harvest logoSecond Harvest Community Food Bank celebrated the end of the 2014 Building Hunger-Free Communities Annual Fund Drive, and honored the food bank’s donors and volunteers.

Over the last three months, donors made gifts and pledges totaling more than $475,000, surpassing their $400,000 goal. The funds raised during the campaign will be used to help purchase nutritious food for programs such as No Hunger Summer and Fresh Start.

“We at Second Harvest want to take the time to recognize our donors, because without them, and their support, Second Harvest would not be able to do the work that is needed each day to nourish those in our community,” said Chad Higdon, executive director at Second Harvest.

“Our donors have provided 3.7 million meals this fiscal year, given 20,000 hours of volunteer time and allow Second Harvest to serve 350 people each day through Fresh Start, Second Harvest’s onsite pantry.”

At the celebration, 36 volunteers were recognized for their contribution of more than 100 hours of service to Second Harvest. Volunteer projects range from working an informational table at a special event, to assisting Members as they receive assistance through Fresh Start. Also honored, were 16 Diamond and Platinum food donors, along with 14 Diamond and Platinum fund donors.
