A Twitter prank involving an alien invasion Elwood, Kansas has gotten way out of hand. Hundreds of tweets have reached millions of followers via the hashtag #ELWOODKANSAS.
The originator of the prank has since deleted his account after receiving threats. According to this account in Tuning Fork Magazine, it started out as a joke by two musicians, to mess with some friends, after the pair viewed some late-night drills at the Air Guard base.
For the record, as far as we know, there has been NO alien invasion of Elwood, at least not yet.
According to a Twitter Tweet attributed in a Retweet to The City of Elwood Kansas: “Just in case anyone has seen the false reports coming from Twitter, Elwood Kansas is just fine nothing has happened.”
There has been some very entertaining traffic on social media, however.
