Authorities are looking for a truck driver from Huntsville, Texas who apparently left his tractor trailer at a truck stop in Lathrop.
Lieutenant Eric Tillford tells us the driver, Mike Howell, was last seen on surveillance video on Sunday morning at the Trex Mart at I-35 and Missouri Route 116.
When they searched the truck, they found his wallet, cell phone, pc, and other belongings. They also found what was described as a strangely-worded note, complaining that everything on his semi was broken. The tractor had been separated from the trailer. But, Tillford says they do not suspect foul play in Howell’s disappearance.
Lieutenant Tillford says they also inspected the trailer, and found a full load of frozen meat. That cargo was destined for New Braunfels, Texas. Howell is 45, and lives in Huntsville, Texas. Investigators spoke with Howell’s wife. She says she spoke with Mike on Saturday night, and that he was acting weird and complaining about the truck breaking down.
Tillford says they first learned about the truck from the company that owns it, R&M Trucking. When Howell and his truck were late arriving they “pinged” the trailer, found its location, and contacted authorities. Local authorities began their investigation at 7am Monday.
Lieutenant Tillford says they conducted two aerial searches of the area, and with the help of the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office, conducted an extensive ground search of the area.
