United Cerebral Palsey of Northwest Missouri raised a total of $152,000 at the Chili Cookoff over the weekend.
UCP Executive Director Teresa Gagliano called that “huge.”
“It is huge,” Ms Gagliano said. “We were wondering if it was even going to happen because of the weather. It’s really hard to reschedule the event, with all those teams, and the schedule at Civic Arena.”
There were 64 teams registered, but four of them didn’t show up, likely because of the threatening weather forecast.
First place in the amateur competition went to Jason Benward. Trex Mart 2 Team lead by Rick Palma won the professional division. The People’s Choice Award went to Nestle Purinam, which raised $73,600 in donations.
Pagliano says the money will help people in Northwest Missouri with handicaps. She says the total was right in line with last year’s total. This was the 28th year that UCP has sponsored the event.
